Well arcane legions has kicked of nicely and i have now played a few games
and im really impressed , i like this game !!
i played a big multiplayer game with martin ,ash ,conboy, ralph, and crabs
and it suprisingly played well , i think the simplicity of the game mechanics
makes it play so well, theres alot to think about when playing the combination
of command points and unit abilities makes the game very tactical and the usual
infantry beat archers ,archers beat cavalry, cavalry beat infantry makes army composition
intresting aswell .
i played 2 one one games with conboy and ash
conboy using the han and i using a very unbalenced roman army ( i took elite units with
direct damage abilities but very fragile ) and the game was pretty one sided (i think it was 16 - 4 )he picked me off bit by bit
against ash i took a more balanced army against his experimental greek army and that
game was pretty even , i controled the hill for most of the game as ash tried first
flanking me and then went for the frontal attack supprted by archers but my legionares held them off and i won by 16 -2
both games were 5000 points and a player needing 15 points to win
im looking forward to the next game
any takers ?

Twas a bit one sided indeed. I look forward to you using a more balanced army next time, then I may get a better idea where to go with a 7000 point army.
The two archer units and the Immortal general hit really hard for 6 command points, could focus on picking a unit apart each turn.
Only concern may be the fragility up front...

ill gladly give you a wuping next week
the league should start the week after so it would be a good time to try out some different things .my cavalry never seem to last very long so im thinking of holding them
back for a while they have the spead to catch up and there always seems to be one
unit you dont use much so why not let it be the one with the spead. :!:

hey guys - firstly great games

elliot - talk about baptism by fire

oh yeah who has my turning tool - D says conboy or crabs

lastly turns out you don't get any victory points for wiping out the enemy - i checked the rule book

Quote:
... by Clearing the Table
If one player manages to defeat all the other players' units, that player wins even if he or she has not reached the required victory point total.

so all those people who wiped out the opposition need to remember how many victory points they actually got

finally cant wait for the next scenario

Enjoyed my game but I am a little iffy on the victory points system if that is the determining factor for who is leading. I mean I may as well take out the claypots if thats the case as I am just allowing everyone more VPs should they win. I am just concerned if that is the dynamic that swarm type armies become pointless and we should all take armies as small and expensive as possible.
I want to play an egyptian player this week as I have yet to face them one on one. I also might test out Shrek

I agree, which is why I have decided to do it like this:
Wiping out your opponent is a better victory than scoring the required VPs.
Ties will be determined by opponents score (a 21-0 victory is better than a 21-15, for example).

To sum up, if you wipe out your opponent, the actual number of VPs you scored is irrelevant.
If you go to time, you may still 'win', but not as successfully as someone who did the above.

Clear? Thoughts?

im fine with this , ive always thought there is no clearer victory than
wiping someone else out and like conboy said hoard armies would be at
a disadvantage so yeh cool beans 8)

I've actually hadf a bit longer to reflect on this and I'm wondering if we should simply have two grades of victory - full and partial. A full victory is when you either wipe your opponent out OR accrue the necessary victory points, a partial victory is scored when a game goes to time but you have more VPs than your opponent.

Once again, points your opponent scores go against you for the purpose of tie breakers.

What dowe think of that? It feels simpler to me, but have a nagging feeling I'm missing something.

played a friendly against martin last thursday
a very close game turned into a win for me i think 19 - 12 but the more i play
this game the more i realise how tactical it is , we both started cagy
waiting for the other person to make a mistake .i tried to break the deadlock
by trying to lure in his units with units i thought could take a hit ,
it worked sort of he charged in and destroyed the whole unit with his
centours and achlies wich shocked me and i new i had to deal with his big
hitters first no matter what.that and helped by a mistake by martin gave me
victory.
this week we start the second round of the league so im looking forward to that so i
can try and climb up that table :D

ive played 3 more games recently
the first was a friendly against rick i used a very fluffy army ive been
collecting minotaurs so i made a mino wolf army , i didnt expect much
but it was fun to play i lost naturally but im not sure if it was of the army
or me.the second game was against mick in the league this was very close
i lost 17-13 but mick played the scenario better killing my commanders and
forcing me to spend more cmd points.the third was against molo i won this
21 -9 ,even though this was against molo  i think im finding my groove
now based on army composition and tatics and no im not using flameburst 8)
so onto my next game

I enjoyed how close the game was against Jason and felt his aggressiveness worked against him. I have thought alot about flamebursts and think personally I may have over reacted about them. If taking 4 firebursts per turn this would still take 2 turns do destroy any archer or useful infantry unit. Archer units can effectively destroy a unit in 1 turn with lucky rolls. It is the use of flamebursts and archers together that is so devastating and look forward to trying to find ways to beat this combination.

Played Martin last night in a closely fought game. Thanks to Martin who I know was ill for going through with the game. I eventually won but I had one of those dream turns that changed the game. I also believe I got the better of the enchanted rule so was happy with that rule.
